This is the #SuccessStory of Ayesha, a 2-year-old #CHDSurvivor. She was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), better known as a hole in the heart.
In VSD there is a hole in the wall (septum) that separates the two lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart. Symptoms include shortness of breath, paleness, fast heart rate etc. It is also the most common type of CHD.
Ayesha’s parents were devastated when they found out about her potentially life-threatening condition. They couldn’t imagine a life without their little bundle of joy and immediately started searching for treatment options.
Residing in the northernmost areas of Pakistan where medical facilities are scarce, Ayesha’s family eventually made their way to Dr. Mohammad Asim Khan, a world-class Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon who is based in the city of Lahore. During the meeting, the family was told about the relatively expensive procedure needed to save Ayesha’s life, a VSD Closure.
Ayesha’s father is a labourer who solely supports his entire family, which includes his wife and 3 children. With limited resources at his disposal, the cost of treatment was out of reach for him. Thankfully though, Dr. Asim referred him to us for financial support.
We are among the leading organizations saving lives of children suffering from CHD and turning their dream of being able to live a normal life into reality. With a brilliant team of healthcare professionals and an incredible donor base available, we are blessed to be able to help families like Ayesha’s.
Following a swift patient registration process, Ayesha’s surgery was scheduled at one of our partner hospitals. The required funds were arranged in practically no time as well. With remarkable medical facilities and personnel on board, the prayers of Ayesha’s loved ones were all that was needed.
While Ayesha was undergoing an extremely complex surgical procedure, simultaneously, her family was going through a tremendously difficult time, one in which they were constantly praying for Ayesha’s life. They wanted their anguish to end and to just hold their child free of any worries.
After the heart surgery which lasted a few hours was complete, we were thrilled to inform Ayesha’s parents that their child’s heart surgery was a resounding success! She now had a second chance at life, one in which she could live like all the other normal children around her.
Ayesha’s family felt eternally grateful to us and were fully satisfied with our whole process, lasting from the first consultation to Ayesha’s discharge. They wished us continued success in all our projects and left as family which could not wait to start lives filled with moments of pure happiness and joy, together.
1 in 100 children are born with CHD, the world’s most common birth defect. We hope that these stories inspire even more people to join us on our journey to conquering CHD, so that we can continue shaping a brighter future for affected children and their families. We are genuinely leaving no stone unturned for them.
