This is the #SuccessStory of how Abdul, at just 10 months, became a #CHDSurvivor. He was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), in which there is a hole that occurs in the septum (wall) that separates the heart’s lower ventricles (chambers) and allows blood to pass from the left to the right side of the heart.
The oxygen-rich blood then gets pumped back to the lungs instead of out to the body, causing the heart to work harder. A VSD is potentially life-threatening and symptoms include shortness of breath, frequent respiratory infections, paleness etc.
Abdul’s family was absolutely shocked by the news, to say the least. Living a life without their little bundle of joy was unimaginable for them. They immediately started the search for his treatment and faced many challenges as the required treatment was not available in their hometown in Pakistan.
After probing through various regions of the country, they eventually found their way to Dr. Masood Sadiq, a renowned Pediatric Cardiologist, and Dr. Asim Khan, a world-class Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon. They informed Abdul’s parents about the life-saving procedure their son had to go through, a VSD Closure.
Abdul’s father, who works as a labourer and solely supports his entire family which includes his wife and 2 children, found it quite expensive. He mentioned to the doctors how he could only arrange half of the required funds and would need financial support for the rest. Luckily for him and Abdul, they were referred to us by Dr. Asim.
We have years of experience saving lives of children born with CHD, the world’s most common birth defect. With exceptional medical facilities available and an incredible donor base in support, we are fully prepared to save infant lives.
The remaining funds were swiftly arranged, thanks to our donors, and all other hospital-related formalities prior to the heart surgery were also taken care of. With a brilliant team of healthcare professionals on board to carry out the surgery that requires a lot of focus, skill and precision, all that was needed now were the prayers of Abdul’s loved ones.
After a tremendously difficult few hours in which Abdul’s parents were fretting, praying and hoping for the best, we were delighted to inform them that the surgery was a massive success! We turned out to be the piercing shaft of light needed to transform Abul’s life.
His life’s light could now shine brighter than ever and his family was immensely grateful for all that they experienced. While Abdul was being discharged, they were delighted beyond measure and wished us all the best for all our projects.
1 in 100 children are born with CHD. We hope that these success stories inspire even more people to join us on our journey to conquering this disease in Pakistan, so that we can continue shaping a brighter future for affected families. We are genuinely leaving no stone unturned for them.
