This is the #SuccessStory of Khabib, a 10-year-old #CHDSurvivor. He was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called a Ventricular Septal Defect #VSD, in which there is a hole that occurs in the septum (wall) that separates the heart’s lower ventricles (chambers) and allows blood to pass from the left to the right side of the heart.
Facing a life-altering situation, Khabib’s parents were left reeling. They needed care and compassion to get through a daunting time. To ensure that their son got the required treatment, they initially searched areas surrounding their hometown, which is in the northern areas of Pakistan.
When that led to disappointment, they expanded their search to other regions of the country. That’s when they finally got to meet Dr. Mohammad Asim Khan, a renowned Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon. He was the one who informed them about the relatively expensive life-saving treatment, the Fontan procedure, that Khabib had to go through.
Khabib’s father is a teacher with a master’s degree. He solely supports his entire family which includes his wife and 7 children. Despite being an established member of society, he could not fully afford the funds needed for his son’s heart surgery. That is where we could help him out.
Dr. Asim referred the family to us and being a leading organization in the field of CHD, we have an exceptional donor base to reach out to. Khabib’s father was commendably able to arrange half of the required funds and we swiftly arranged the rest. With all hospital-related formalities taken care of as well, the surgery was scheduled at a partner hospital.
With our world-class team of healthcare professionals on board to carry out the complex procedure, all that we needed were the prayers of Khabib’s loved ones. Throughout the surgery, which lasted for a few hours, his entire family was hoping and praying for the best. So after its completion, we were delighted to tell them that it was a resounding success!
Khabib had defeated CHD. Our care was crucial for his survival and his family was incredibly proud of him for overcoming an unprecedented challenge. When it came to their experience with us, they left with such kind words and unforgettable memories. They wished us continued success in all our projects and hoped that we would achieve all our goals.
1 in 100 children are born with CHD, the world’s most common birth defect. We hope that these stories inspire even more people to join us on our journey to conquering CHD, so that we can continue shaping a brighter future for affected children and their families. We are genuinely leaving no stone unturned for them.
