This is the success story of Zain, a 5-year-old ‘Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Survivor’. He was diagnosed with a CHD called Tetralogy Of Fallot. The name refers to 4 heart problems which occur simultaneously, decreasing the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream. It can be fatal if left untreated.
Symptoms include bluish skin colour, developmental delays etc. CHDs such as TOF can be caused by a combination of factors, such as genes or things the mother comes in contact with. It may be diagnosed during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
Faced with a precarious situation, Zain’s family was left reeling in despair. For his treatment, they initially searched areas surrounding their hometown, Swabi, which is located in the northern areas of Pakistan. With the medical facilities their being inadequate to treat Zain’s condition, his parents had to travel to other parts of the country for help.
Fortunately for them, they finally came across Dr. Masood Sadiq, a renowned Pediatric Cardiologist who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Child Health Sciences, along with being the Head & Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at Children’s Hospital Lahore. Through him, they discovered us.
Being a leading organization in the field of CHD, we have tremendous experience saving lives of children like Zain. Following initial check-ups, we informed Zain’s family that he would need to go through a life-saving procedure called a Total Correction, one that is relatively expensive.
Zain’s father, a labourer who solely supports his entire family which includes his wife and 5 children, was in desperate need of financial support. That’s where our incredible donor base comes in, exceptional individuals and organizations supporting our cause.
We were to arrange around half of the required funds for the surgery as Zain’s father was commendably able to come up with the rest. With all hospital-related formalities taken care of as well, the surgery was scheduled at one of our partner hospitals. Our world-class team of healthcare professionals was on board to carry out the complex treatment.
Throughout the heart surgery, which lasted for a very difficult few hours for Zain’s family, they were constantly praying for his health. So once the surgery was complete, we were delighted to inform them that Zain had defeated CHD!
Zain was now a real-life hero who could go on to live a normal life. His family was so proud of him. They were also full of praise for our organization and wished us success in all our projects. These are very special moments for our team as they inspire us to keep doing our utmost to ease the anguish of these families.
1 in 100 children are born with CHD, the world’s most common birth defect. We hope that these stories inspire even more people to join us on our journey to conquering this disease, so that we can continue shaping a brighter future for affected children and their families. We are genuinely leaving no stone unturned for them.
You can help further our cause either by donating towards the construction of Pakistan’s first dedicated Children’s Heart Hospital & Research Institute (CHHRI), or towards life-saving child heart surgeries. #SuccessStory #CHDSurvivor #TOF
