A peculiar case of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD), or Adult Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in this instance. This is the astounding success story of Ali, a 22-year-old ‘CHD Warrior’, who was given the gift of a new life in adulthood.
Ali was diagnosed with a CHD known as Pulmonary Atresia (PA). PA is a heart defect in which there is abnormal development in the pulmonary valve, resulting in problems with blood flow. The pulmonary valve is located between the pulmonary artery, the large artery that goes to the lungs, and the right ventricle, one of the two large chambers towards the bottom of the heart.
While most CHD patients are treated as infants, children or adolescents, Ali was able to survive till adulthood. However, his condition eventually started deteriorating and he needed life-saving treatment in order to have a fair chance at living a long, healthy life. This was a shock unlike any Ali and his entire family had experienced before.
Ali’s father was desperate to save his son’s life, and in his anxious search, he found his way to us. Fortunately for him, this was to be life-altering not only for Ali, but for the whole family. Ali has 2 brothers, 2 sisters and his mother has sadly passed away. His father, who works as a driver, is the main source of financial support.
With Ali’s treatment, a procedure called a Partial AV Canal Repair, extremely expensive, his father needed help when it came to arranging funds. That’s where we stepped in. With our vast experience treating CHD affected patients, and being blessed with an incredible donor base, we were able to readily support Ali.
