Hashim was diagnosed with a potentially fatal Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) known as TGA (Transposition of the Great Arteries) as a 1-year-old. TGA is a heart defect in which the 2 main arteries carrying blood out of the heart are switched in position. Symptoms include breathing problems, a weak pulse, bluish skin color etc.
TGA occurs during pregnancy when the baby’s heart is developing. The cause is generally unknown. Some babies have it because of changes in their genes or chromosomes, some have it because of things the mother comes in contact with in her environment or a combination of these factors.
Hashim’s father is a teacher at a government institute and his mother is a housewife. On a relatively limited income, his father solely supports the whole family, which includes Hashim’s 2 brothers and sister as well. After visiting hospitals in multiples provinces of the country, Hashim’s father finally brought him to us as he desperately needed support for his son’s planned treatment, an Arterial Switch.
In an Arterial Switch the arteries are put back in their correct place and normal blood circulation is restored. It is an expensive procedure that Hashim’s father could not afford on his own. Admirably though, he was able to arrange around 60% of the required funds.
With years of experience dealing with similar cases, our exceptional team was able to step in and do what they do best. All the necessary preparations were smoothly and diligently taken care of. From arranging the rest of the funds to hospital formalities, Hashim and his family were facilitated in the best possible way.
Blessedly, thanks to our phenomenal healthcare professionals, the surgery was a massive success and Hashim overcame a life-threatening CHD! His family, especially his inspirational father, is eternally grateful to us and our generous donors for everything we did for them. Thankfully, we turned a dream into reality.
