#SuccessStories
This is the remarkable success story of Rabia, who was diagnosed with 2 critical heart defects a mere 3 months after being born. She had a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and another one known as Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC).
TAPVC is a rare heart defect in which the pulmonary veins that return oxygen rich blood from the lungs are connected to the right side of the heart instead of the left side. This causes mixing of oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood, which leads to body tissue not getting as much oxygen as it is supposed to. Symptoms include breathing problems, poor growth etc.
In ASD there is a hole in the wall (septum) that divides the upper chambers (atria) of the heart. The hole increases the amount of blood that flows through the lungs. Symptoms include irregular heartbeats, fatigue, swelling etc.
After finding out that the procedure required to heal Rabia’s heart was an expensive one, her family ended up coming to us for help. They were referred to us by Dr. Asim Khan, a renowned, world-class Pakistani Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon.
Rabia’s father works as a driver and her mother is a housewife. With limited resources at his disposal, Rabia’s father supports the entire family, which includes Rabia’s sister, all by himself. He truly needed support in order to save his child’s life. Luckily for him, that’s where we stepped in.
Commendably, he was able to arrange exactly half of the required funds for the heart surgery. With our phenomenal donor base, we were swiftly able to arrange the rest. Other than that, we also took care of all other hospital and accommodation related formalities as well. We always try our utmost to ensure that our patients are facilitated in the best possible way.
With the whole family praying for a successful operation, that is precisely what was achieved. Blessedly, after the tremendous effort of our whole team, Rabia was able to survive being born with multiple heart defects. Being an infant makes her story even more astounding! Her family was tremendously thankful and relieved that the worst was now behind them.
We at PCHFNA, feel blessed to have the opportunity to help CHD affected families and enlighten their lives. Without your amazing support though, this wouldn’t be possible. Continue to help us shape a brighter future by donating at:
