Hospital Construction in Pakistan

CHD Hospital Construction

One of the main goals of Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation is the establishment of a 150-bed specialized children’s heart hospital and research institute in Lahore. This state-of-the-art hospital will not only be the leading institution in the country for the treatment of heart related problems in children, but it will also serve as a centre of excellence and training for the whole region.

The earth breaking for this historic project was done in Lahore on 8th May 2020. Our brand ambassador and board member, Misbah Ul Haq, was at the ceremony. Hospital construction has been divided into 2 phases; the hospital will be operational after phase 1. Phase 1 will comprise of a five-level structure with 2 basements, 1 ground floor and 3 upper floors.

We expect phase 1 to be completed over a period of 18 months from when construction begins, at a projected cost of 1.25 billion PKR. We expect to be operational with 75 beds after the completion of phase 1.

Each year around 60,000 children are born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in Pakistan. A large majority of these children are unable to get the heart treatment that they require due to lack of facilities and personnel, and also due to the high cost of treatment. In line with its mission, Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF) continues to strive to provide top quality diagnostic and treatment options for these children, irrespective of their family’s ability to pay. Since its inception in 2012 and as of 31st December 2020, PCHF has successfully provided financial and medical support to 2221 children, by helping them get heart surgery, at a total cost of 808 Million PKR.

We have built partnerships with different hospitals and institutions around the country helping us strengthen the outreach of our programme.
We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ittefaq Hospital Trust, Lahore until the start of our own specialized children’s heart hospital. We are getting the surgeries of PCHF sponsored patients done at IHT at a discounted rate.
We signed the same MOU with other partner hospitals all over Pakistan such as Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, Rehman Medical Institute in Peshawar, Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi.

We have our very own PCHF Child Heart Centre, at the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital (ULTH). We are operating this setup ourselves, with our own team of nurses and medical officers. Our aim with this setup is to provide the highest quality of care to our patients at the lowest costs possible. We are one of only three centres in Pakistan to be recognized by the International Quality Improvement Collaborative for Congenital Heart Diseases (IQIC). IQIC provides benchmarking data for healthcare professionals and guides quality improvement efforts.

Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi.
We have signed a MOU with Hameed Latif Hospital in Lahore. We hope we can help strengthen their Pediatric Cardiac Surgery programme.
We signed a partnership agreement with Cleft Hospital Gujrat and Pakistan Cleft Lip & Palate Association (PCLAPA) for mutual referral of patients.
We are in the process of finalising our MOU agreement with Liaquat National Hospital, Karachi.

We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ittefaq Hospital Trust, Lahore until the start of our own specialized children’s heart hospital. We are getting the surgeries of PCHF sponsored patients done at IHT at a discounted rate.

Our aim, by involving these various healthcare institutions from all over Pakistan, is to provide improved access to quality healthcare services for children from all over the country, even the remote areas where currently there is no access to treatment.

PCHF is also offering free Outpatient Department (OPD) services for all their patients. This includes free pre-operative and post-operative echocardiography tests and cardiology consultation. In 2020, we have carried out a total of 250 Echocardiography tests, 193 pre-op. ECHOs and 57 post-op. ECHOs.
